Digital4Africa-Logo-2Here is my most recent re-tweet

And if the above statement is correct – then I wonder what I have been of late…

That said – I have just finished building a WordPress site – for a company that deals in Digital Marketing. That has been the inspiration for this blog post – seeing as it was full of social and SEO integration here and there – with a focus on content because CONTENT IS STILL KING apparently.

Should you want to see the results of my hard work – please do visit – – and then follow them on Twitter and Like them on Facebook…and should you need a sound digital marketing strategy, fill any of the numerous contact forms and your shall surely be taken care of.

Moving on to the next project as my Blog keeps defining – to some extent – who I am…

The Great Run – Vol 5

3 Jun

WP_20140531_013 So…yeah – I attended the The Great Run ( over the weekend an boy was if fun. All the fast cars and the adrenaline that goes with it. This 5th edition of the run was taking participants from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu, Narok, Bomet, Mogogosiek (where the home we were supporting is), Litein, Kericho, Mau Summit, Nakuru, Naivasha and then back to Nairobi. 620 clicks – according to my odometer – when I was done.

The home being supported was the AIC Babies Home (yes – babies). Their youngest child was about 2 weeks old with the eldest being 7 years old. From what the Chairman of the home said – in his very loooooooong speech (he may have forgotten that people actually had to get back to Nairobi the same day…or maybe it is just what happens when leaders get hold of a microphone and an audience) – the home supports the young ones and then moves them on to other homes as they get older – and they get needy children from all over the region.

S.H.I.T. for short

20 May

It is now, and always has been, the policy of this company to ensure that it’s employees are well trained. Through our ‘SPECIAL HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING’ programme, or S.H.I.T. for short. We have given our employees more S.H.I.T. than any other company in the area.

If any employee feels that he or she is not receiving enough S.H.I.T. on the job, or that he or she could advance to another position by taking more S.H.I.T. please see your immediate supervisor.

If you graduate to the top of your list by taking all the S.H.I.T. that is given to you, you can then qualify for our Supervisors Programme ‘COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY ACTION PROGRAMME’ or C.R.A.P. for short.

So to become a member of our Management Team, simply take all the S.H.I.T. you can, and then with all the additional C.R.A.P. you receive, you will soon reach the top. Any employee who has the initiative and drive to take both S.H.I.T. and C.R.A.P. will soon become one of the elite.

For a limited period only the company is offering all employees the chance to try for the latest scheme ‘ADVANCED SUPERVISORY STAFF HELPING OUR LOCAL EMPLOYEES’ or A.S.S.H.O.L.E. for short. So work hard, and you will find that the more S.H.I.T. you take the more C.R.A.P. you can handle, your prospects of becoming an A.S.S.H.O.L.E. will improve dramatically.

Weird Small Business Attitude in Kenya

20 May

2Going_out_of_Business090203  When it comes to some things, I know I am behind the curve. For example, as i type this, I am listening to a two song playlist on repeat (Ducth – Fena Gitu feat. Kagwe Mungai and Toshi / Badilisha – Jose Chameleon). For some reason, despite the songs literally being years old, I cannot seem to get enough of them. YouTube them – I insist.

I digress – back to the topic at hand. I recently bought an electronic device from what one would describe as a small business in Nairobi. For those who might not know the ins and outs of Nairobi, by small business, I mean a stall (small cramped poorly ventilated space) – in one of the many buildings in and around the Central Business District. The buying process for this device started with a simple search on a well publicized classifieds website (whose identity I am withholding because they already have enough publicity). After filtering out potential devices to purchase at the right price, phone calls were made, one thing lead to another and a couple of hours after starting the search, trekking half way through town, getting a bit lost but finally finding the places after a few (several) direction clarification phone calls and texts, I land at the retailer(s) stall.

Can you base a website on a Facebook Page? FBCMS?

Facebook-Business-PageFacebook as a Content Management System

I know this my sound weird but is it? There are quite a number of businesses – granted – small businesses that depend a great deal on their Facebook pages as their online representatives. The idea of that is not something I really like mainly because people on Facebook are normally looking for gossip or basically not looking to work. When we want to work, we normally resort back to our favorite search engine(s) and when looking to buy, our favorite classifieds, auction and ecommerce sites take center stage. Putting merchandise on Facebook leads to visibility by people who are not particularly interested in your product(s) but got to view it because for some reason your page happened to be within their second of third level of friendship zones or some other complicated yet not so complicated link.

Diamond Trust Bank(DTB)…Please make online banking for consumers…we don’t all use Internet Explorer

5 Feb

It has been a while since I ranted about something that just pissed me off, especially when people who know better and have the capability to do better are simply NOT doing better. Bare with me and read on – and zusha if you can (in the comments or on twitter/Facebook) – and maybe we could get the relevant authorities to react accordingly.

New look, New Technologies

8 Feb

For first time visitors to the site, welcome – I hope you find the blog useful. For returning visitor, well, as you may have noticed (or not) – the look and feel of the site has changed – somewhat. That is coz I have just implemented a template that incorporates Twitter’s bootstrap (thus it is responsive – you welcome mobile users) and a Metro look and feel (maybe not all the way – but somewhat).

I find it refreshing to make changes every so often and a template change at least once every 24 months is not so bad – and I made this current change mainly so that I could incorporate a responsive template to the system with the help of Bootstrap.

My Issues with Mobile Money

28 Dec

It has been a while since I just chucked a rant, so here goes.

Over this holiday season, I find myself in the bundus working towards some other important goals. Now, as you would expect, ensuring thins go as planned in the village normally requires one to have your miscellaneous monies in an easily accessible place – mainly because things have a tendency of going outside the budgets at times and places like these.

Due to lack of banking services in down here, it is only obvious that the best mode of carrying around cash you may or may not use would be on one’s mobile phone. And even with that solutions, I was spoilt for choice between M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Orange Money, Yu Cash, et cetera.

Now, as we head towards the end of the holidays, I have just been doing a re-cap of miscellaneous expenditure via money solutions and I got an epiphany.

McAfee Ujinga…

5 Nov

Seriously McAfee – giving me limitations on my password? For a computer security company, to think that I cannot use my very well thought out complicated password to open an account is absurd! McAfee – you should be ashamed of yourselves!
